Charaka Samhitā
Khmer Yoga | Asana
( ក្បាច់ \ ចលានា យោគី ឬ ក្បាច់ អាសន្ន)
is the act of devotion through the invocation (ārādhanā) and performance of celestial movements and postures (iriyàpatha/asana) to unify with the divine. Through this practice, yogis cultivate a state of awareness (Calanānusati) and understanding of the Rupa-Kaya (form body) and its divine potential (Kayanusati). These techniques & gestures have been practiced to purify and regulate the bodily systems. They were further developed to assist yogis on their path towards liberation (moksha/mukti/vimutti).
These expressions can be seen in Khmer bas reliefs, ritual dances, mask dances, martial arts as well as Twai Kru/Baramey ceremonies.
Practice begins with mantra chanting & breath work to align the mind, body & spirit with dharma. After which, is a guided practice which holds & flows through sequences of postures, gestures, & mudras; with synchronized awareness & breathing. These movements incorporate balancing, bending, stretching, stabilizing, and strengthening of the body (Kaya) with emphasis on QOM (quality of motion). Sessions conclude with quiet reflection (Dhyāna) and homage. (*Duration approx. 1hr)
Khmer Yoga, Breathwork, & Meditation are complementary practices that are traditionally practiced together to cultivate dharma and awareness.
Pranayam | Breathwork
( ប្រាណាយាម )
Is the interaction and awareness of life force energy manifesting as breath. Pranayam uses breathing techniques to harness & release this energy to prepare the yogi for meditation. Practice begins with homage & mantra chanting. This is proceeded by a guided practice in which yogis preform breathing exercises to balance & purify the energy channels of the body. Sessions conclude with reflection and awareness of breath.

Practice begins with chanting and homage. This is followed by a guide practice & concludes with light meditation.
